SPY Levels & Game Plan

Friday, April 17, 2026

9:31 am Eastern - It might be a mistake to include so many levels for today, but here we go. Not all need to be traded against. Keep refreshing this page - I'll update the Game Plan until about 9:44 am. I was busy managing a premarket futures trade, and got behind schedule...

9:39 am: I'm going to just go on record and say that today might be a good day to just sit back and see what the market does - and not trade against today's levels. The DJT and IWM are still screaming. There could be a place and time soon, where that rally comes to an abrupt halt. And if/when that happens, SPY and ES will likely fall like a rock. We don't want to have trades triggered in the ES at every level if price is moving fast - especially if it's in the downward direction.

Clearly everything is bullish at the moment, but the extensions above certain moving averages can result in sharp corrections when the time is right. And in the big picture, the timing component is right for a reversal. Just from where? I don't know. If it happens today, at all. Today just feels to me that it might not be a slow floating kind of day in the SPY.

9:42 am: There was a level I used in the premarket to pull more than a handful of points on a short position. When price got back under 707.35, there was increased pull to the downside for a bit. Now at about 9:43 am, price is still trying to get back on top of 707.35. If the bulls can do it, they'll try to target the levels we have higher up starting at 709.68.

If the bulls fail to keep price above 707.35 and we see closes under 706.90, then it will be easier for the bears to pull price down more.

9:47 am: Ok, now we're past the first 15-minute window. It's trader's choice whether you want to trade at any of the levels today. The safe bet is to sit on the sidelines. If you choose to put money at risk, try to identify which levels have additional confirmations of being good support and/or resistance by analyzing the longer timeframes. Where is price in relation to moving averages and important retracement areas, for example? The more confirmation around a level, the better your odds you'll got a Base Hit reaction when price hits it. Be careful and trade well today, if you choose to play in the rodeo.

After the closing bell...

Trading by the Ticks & Trades Strategy,  a total of 7.25 ES points for the day. See notes for 4/17/2026 in Tracking Log below.
